Last Summer Nearly Cooked Me—This Year, I Found a Company I Can Trust
It was the last week of August, and the heat had that heavy, unmoving quality to it—the kind that seeps into the drywall and turns your home into an oven. My AC gave out on a Thursday evening, right as the sun was starting to drop. I remember the moment because the air had stopped moving, and I just sat there on the couch, listening to the silence.
At first, I figured it was a tripped breaker. Maybe a filter issue. I’ve been in this house long enough to know most of its quirks. But after checking the basics, I knew it wasn’t something I could fix with a YouTube video and a set of Allen wrenches.
So I called around. That’s when I learned what a bad week it is to lose your AC in late August.
Everyone was booked. One guy said he could squeeze me in ten days out. Another said they weren’t even taking emergency calls. So I did what a lot of folks in my situation probably would: I toughed it out.
For the next two weeks, I sweated through every night with a box fan perched on the dresser and a damp washcloth on my neck. I watched the forecast obsessively, hoping for a cool front that never came. And the worst part? I told myself this was fine. That I could get through it.
Eventually, the weather shifted. I stopped sleeping with ice packs. And the AC? I never did fix it.
When the Forecast Creeps Up Again
Fast forward to this spring. The buds were on the trees, the robins were back, and I could feel that familiar shift in the air. I walked past the thermostat one morning and realized—I didn’t want to do another summer the same way.
This time, I wasn’t going to wait.
I started doing some research. I wanted a company that wouldn’t just install a new unit and vanish. I wanted someone who’d actually show up when they said they would. Who’d explain what was going on without talking over my head. And frankly, someone I’d feel okay having in my home.
A Different Kind of Service
After a few conversations and a couple of dead ends, I found a company based out of Longmont. From the first call, something felt different. The person who answered the phone wasn’t in a hurry to get me off the line. They asked good questions. They offered to come out for a quick assessment—no pressure, no assumptions.
They showed up on time. Took a look at my aging system. Walked me through the options. It wasn’t a hard sell. It was a conversation. And that alone went a long way.
Getting Ahead of the Heat
I decided to go ahead and replace our AC system. The old unit was over 20 years old, and while it technically could have been repaired, they didn’t push me one way or the other. They just gave me the facts.
Within a week, I had a new unit installed. They cleaned up after themselves, tested everything twice, and even took the time to show me how the new smart thermostat worked. And now, I sleep better knowing that when July rolls in, I won’t be lying awake in a puddle of regret.
Why I’m Glad I Didn’t Wait
I’ve learned that sometimes we wait out of habit. We tell ourselves we can deal with the discomfort, or that it’s not urgent, or that the timing’s not right.
But last summer taught me something: comfort isn’t a luxury. It’s part of being able to live well in your own home. And finding a company that respects that—that treats your time, your space, and your sanity like it matters—that’s worth more than the unit itself.
I found that kind of company in Longmont.
And I won’t be sweating it out this summer.
